Pearl cultivation |
 |
|
 |
| The passion grows |
 |
To grow pearls you need the right
oysters. These are either collected by divers from the ocean, or bred
on pearl farms.
The cultured oysters are then implanted with the mother-of-pearl seed,
which they then encase in fine layers of aragonite crystals – the
mother-of-pearl. The duration of the culturing phase determines the
thickness of the mother-of-pearl layer. During this time, the oysters
are kept and cared for in nets or baskets surrounded by ideal water
conditions in natural surroundings. Only very few of the pearls harvested
after so many years of work are of the finest quality |
