Kasumiga-ura Cultured Pearls |
 |
Kasumiga-ura cultured
pearls are Japanese freshwater cultured pearls and have been cultivated
in Lake Kasumiga-ura (north of Tokyo) as well as in Lake Biwa since
1997. They are cultivated using even, round nucleus beads and the
nacre is often over 2 mm thick. The bead nucleus is implanted into
the center and is approx. 7 mm large. Kasumiga-ura cultured pearls
are between 8-15 mm in size and their colors range from pale pink
to a dark pink or violet hue, often with an almost metallic luster.
The production of these cultured pearls is very limited, meaning that
only a few selected importers are allowed to supply them. Around 10,000
Kasumiga-ura cultured pearls are produced each year |
